PNG is lossless. Every pixel survives and transparency is kept. Go with JPG instead if you want a smaller file and don't mind a slight quality drop.

Does it handle multi-page TIFFs?

It exports the first page. If your TIFF has several pages, split them first or open the file in a TIFF reader that lets you save each page.
