How do I set the crop region?

Drag inside the box to move it, or drag any of the eight handles to resize it. The pixel size of the selection, mapped to the video's real resolution, shows above the buttons so you can see exactly what you'll get.

Does cropping lose quality?

Cropping changes the frame size, so the video is re-encoded to H.264 rather than copied — it isn't lossless. You get a standard MP4, and because the kept region is smaller the file usually shrinks too.

Why are the crop width and height always even numbers?

H.264 encodes in 2×2 pixel blocks, so it needs an even width and height. The tool rounds your selection down to the nearest even number before cropping, which can shave at most one pixel off each side.

It says my browser can't encode H.264. What now?

Some browsers (Firefox, mainly) have no built-in H.264 encoder. Open this tool in Chrome or Edge, which both ship one, and the crop works. Either way it runs on your device.

What video formats can I load?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V and similar files all load for cropping. The output is always an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio.

Is there a file size or length limit?

There's no hard limit, but the whole video is decoded and re-encoded in memory in your browser, so very large or long files take longer and use more RAM. Trimming first keeps things fast.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read, cropped and re-encoded entirely in your browser using WebCodecs. Nothing is sent to a server, so your video never leaves your device.
